Yawgoo Valley
Yawgoo Valley is Rhode Island's only ski area, offering a small but accessible winter sports experience for those just outside Providence.Skiing at Yawgoo is best suited for beginners and intermediate skiers, as most trails are gentle and relatively short.
That said, it's an excellent place for learning to ski or snowboard, as Yawgoo's size makes it easy to navigate and comfortable for families with children.
Since it's in lower New England, Yawgoo experiences milder winter temperatures when compared to its northern counterparts. The downside is that this makes for a shorter ski season - think Holiday Break to Holiday Break, late December to mid February.
It is a hill for locals, a place where Rhode Islanders can enjoy skiing without making a long trip to Vermont or New Hampshire.
Yawgoo is popular for after-school and evening skiing with night lighting on most trails. While you won't find challenging expert terrain or the extensive trail networks of larger mountain resorts, Yawgoo has a certain quaint charm to it.
